The drag strip in Baytown also has a round dirt track. They run sprint cars (and maybe others) there on occasion. This past Saturday they had a sprint car race and gave free tickets to the drag racers. Since I have never been, Chris and I headed over for an impromptu date night while Katelyn played with Granny and Grandpa.
We got over there before the race started so we had some time to do some people watching. Boy oh boy was there some great people watching to be had! That was enough to make the whole night worth it. The racing was pretty cool too. Those cars are crazy!! What was not so fun...be covered in dirt. Yes, its a dirt track and as the cars race, they fling dirt into the stands constantly. Towards the end of the race, during a caution, we went down by the fence. Me, thinking Chris would not be mean and get me dirty (although I was filthy already) followed him to the fence. After the caution was over and the racing started again, the mud was flying. I screamed like a girl and ducked behind him while he just laughed it up. URRRR! You would think that I would have learned my lesson, but I guess now. Anywho, I am glad that we took advantage of the opportunity and I would go back!

Monkey see, Monkey do!
At the racetrack this past weekend, we had a great spot against the fence. When Chris was not racing, he was enjoying watching. The princess decided she needed to be just like daddy! Granny and Grandpa bought her a Katelyn sized chair that matches theirs and she loves it. So there they were, chilling watching the racing.

Cooking??
Katelyn decided she was going to do some cooking tonight. She pulled out her blender and brought it into the family room. For the next 20min, so proceeded to run back and forth between the family room and the kitchen grabbing different foods to blend up. She would put something in and get so excited when she turned it on that she would bounce up and down screaming with joy! It was so funny.
Working
Katelyn asked to go outside and play with her mower the other day. We were outside maybe 10 minutes before I found her sitting next to the mower with it flipped over. She came running up to me and said, "Mama, I need tools" while pointing at the tool box. I gave her a screw driver and she scurried over to the mower and "worked" on it. A few min later she came running back (not with the screwdriver in her hand...I'm not that irresponsible people!) requesting more tools. I gave her a pair of pliers and quickly went in the house to grab my camera. When I came back out, she was requesting more tools. I finally just gave her my tool box from college (yes mom, I still have it and apparently Katelyn is going to put it to great use!). She opened it up and went to town "working" on her mower. Do you think she's watched her daddy work on just a few things?
Lawn Mower
I have been trying to convince Chris that Katelyn needs a mower forever. We never got one until last weekend when I found a bubble mower on sale at Wal-mart. I finally broke down and bought it. Needless to say she LOVES it!!
Big girl
So for the past year, Katelyn has been terrified of the vacuum for some reason. She does great if someone is holding her, even if that someone is the one pushing the vacuum, but if she's not with someone, she screams! That makes it very difficult to vacuum when shes awake and/or home. Well, the other day, I desperately needed to vacuum. When I got the vacuum out, she got upset. I bribed her with mini chocolate chips and apple juice to sit in her chair to keep her safe while I vacuumed. She bought into it!! She grabbed everything she could, including her broom and dust pan and plopped down. While I vacuumed, she would wave and laugh.
After I finished a majority of the family room, I needed to move her. She curled up and and let me slide her chair across the room!

Random pic
This is from the other day, but its too cute not to share! We were outside Memorial Day morning and Katelyn specifically requested to have her picture taken in that exact spot! Was totally random, but I had to take advantage. She even waited patiently for me to run inside and get the camera!
Dancing!
So today beings a new chapter in our lives....dancing! Today was officially Katelyn's first day of dance class. Her daycare offers a dance class at school and I was strongly encouraged by her teachers (and pretty much everyone else at school) to put her in dance over gymnastics. I went with their suggestion and after day 1, I am very happy with my decision. I bought her a black leotard, pink tights, and ballet slippers (required for the class). We tried everything on yesterday evening and she was super excited, not to mention absolutely adorable!! She danced around all night in her dance outfit and fell asleep talking about dancing. This morning the first thing she said when I went to get her dressed was "mama, I go dance with friends". Needless to say she was a tad bit excited.
Since her daycare has video cameras, I was able to watch her class via the internet! It was so cute. They were having a great time. When I got there to pick her up, her teachers said she loved it and had the best time. They told me to ask her to do her hip hop dance, so thats the first thing I did. Its really more of a sassy pose than a dance, but whatever makes her happy! Its so funny when she does it.
Needless to say, I think we will be doing dance for a little while. They have a recital in December and I would be willing to bet, Katelyn will have a crowd of supporters!!

San Antonio
Katelyn and I enjoyed a short (very short, way to short) visit with my mom on the Riverwalk on Friday. I needed to reschedule some hotel reservations and since Chris was racing in San Antonio, he suggest we have a girls night on the Riverwalk. Everyone has been super busy so it was a much needed break with no deadlines or must do's. We checked into the hotel and headed to the Riverwalk right away. There is a little arts and crafts show going on (score for mom and I...we love those) so we enjoyed looking at all of the different crafts. After we were sufficiently hot, we headed back to the hotel for swimming. That was Katelyn's favorite part! Later we enjoyed a nice dinner, played at the Rivercenter Mall and headed back to the hotel to crash. The next morning we enjoyed a nice relaxing breakfast before heading out. We weren't even together for 24hours, but we packed it full of laughs and fun. After about 2 sec of discussion, mom and I decided we should try and do this at least once a year. A weekend for the 3 generations. Maybe, just maybe, we can get GG (my grandma, Katelyn's great-grandma) to join us and it will be 4 generations! How fun!!
After breakfast, Katelyn and I head to the racetrack to spend the weekend watching Chris race and hanging out with friends. It was a rough weekend at the track for Chris, but it was fun to get back into the racing grove again.
Date Night
Thanks you Grandpa and Granny, Chris and I enjoyed a date night a few weeks ago (yes I am way behind again...please forgive me). We took advantage of Houston Restaurant Weeks and headed to Del Frisco's at the Galleria. The Houston Restaurants Weeks is a program in which local restaurants offer a 3 (sometimes 4) course meal for $35 per person. The restaurants then donate some of the proceeds to the Houston Food Bank. At places like Del Frisco's $35 per person is AWESOME! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our date night. We capped it off with a movie from red box at home.
Jill...that is the skirt I was telling you about the other day. Its so comfy! Cute huh?
